The Religious Leader and the Tax Collector

Welcome to this journey of discovery. You may have found this journey because of friend, or maybe by searching the internet. Either way, this is an opportunity for you to discover more about who God is and how to be close to him. It is always better to take a journey with a friend, so maybe find someone to do it with you!

Click on each tab to continue your journey of discovery about your questions.

Starting with a moment of thankfulness.

“Lord God, thank you for an opportunity to know you. I am thankful for a way to discover who you are.”

Take a moment and think of something you are thankful for and tell God about it.

Continuing with a short prayer.

“God, I do want to know you, understand what you are like, feel like I am near you and pleasing you. Please help me to hear you through these stories you left for me to read.”

Praying is that simple. Is there anything else you want to tell God?

It might be different than you expect, but after the story there will be a few questions to help you discover for yourself about who God is and what that means for your life.

He also spoke this parable to certain people who were convinced of their own righteousness, and who despised all others: “Two men went up into the temple to pray; one was a Pharisee, and the other was a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed by himself like this: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like the rest of men: extortionists, unrighteous, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week. I give tithes of all that I get.’ But the tax collector, standing far away, wouldn’t even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Luke 18:9-14
